http://www.websterls.com/) is a pioneer of the hip-hop movement in Quebec. With seven albums under his belt, he knows very well the dynamics behind creative writing. For several years, he has been giving workshops all around the world. He has been invited to Harvard University and to Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston; to juvenile detention centres in Geneva (Switzerland), to schools in the Bronx (New York), and cultural centres in China, Senegal and Mali. His workshops have taken him to more than thirty cities, nine countries and four continents. He regularly collaborates with the governments of Quebec, Canada and France. In Quebec, he has been invited to many elementary and secondary schools, as well as several youth correctional facilities. His workshop was part of the activities offered to young school drop-outs in the CBC documentary “Les Perseverants” which aired in March 2014.
The purpose of this
English-language workshop is to stimulate creativity by exploring tools for poetically expressing emotion. Hip-hop is a popular musical style with both literary and educational aspects.
The workshop is conducted in two parts. In the first, participants acquire theoretical notions: literary devices (metaphors, comparisons, rhymes), rhythm of the text (speed, energy, etc.), hip-hop’s structure and form, as well as different methods of drawing inspiration. In the second part, participants will practice their newly acquired skills by choosing a theme and writing a corresponding text. At the end of the workshop, participants are invited to perform for the workshop group.

Le but de cet atelier
en anglais est de stimuler la créativité en explorant des outils pour exprimer poétiquement l'émotion. Le hip-hop est un style musical populaire avec des aspects à la fois littéraires et éducatifs.
L'atelier se déroule en deux parties. Dans le premier, les participants acquièrent des notions théoriques: dispositifs littéraires (métaphores, comparaisons, rimes), rythme du texte (vitesse, énergie, etc.), structure et forme du hip-hop, ainsi que différentes méthodes de inspiration. Dans la deuxième partie, les participants mettront en pratique leurs compétences nouvellement acquises en choisissant un thème et en écrivant un texte correspondant. À la fin de l'atelier, les participants sont invités à se produire pour le groupe de l'atelier.
